On the rope
Crew & towers
Six people, two stations, one 99-year-old drum, and a log nobody dares let lapse.
Mabon Reece
Came up through the millpond workshops and never left. Keeps the drum, the brake and the two gears honest.
Sorrel Aldous
Great-granddaughter of a tower keeper, and of a Mrs Aldous of some note. Walks the rope every second day, magnet in hand.
Dov Barak
Runs the fog board by hand each morning. Claims to predict fog better than the met office; the evidence is, annoyingly, with him.
Hetty Aldous
Great-great-granddaughter of the 1931 passenger. Sold the first season pass and remembers every objection to it.
Carys Lloyd
The scones. Also the log's unofficial historian, having read all 54 rope volumes during quiet afternoons.
Perran Vosper
Boarding, chocking, guidance and the sixty-second Halt hold. Has heard every joke about slow and approves of none.
