Read before boarding
Safety
The plain rules of the span: aboard, at the stations, and in weather.
Five rules, all learned early by someone
- Doors open only from outside. The crew unlocks both doors at both platforms. Wait for them; the cabin will wait for you.
- Hands stay inside. The cable moves at 2.1 metres per second and the scenery is closer than it looks.
- No rocking the cabin. The rope notices everything. This is not a swing, it is a 99-year-old engineered system holding you 400 metres up.
- Mind the platform edge. Yellow line, painted and repainted annually since 1963. The paint is not decorative.
- Tell the crew everything. Feel dizzy, nervous, unwell, or simply curious: the cabin can slow, stop, or turn around. It has done all three, gladly.
Wind: gusts above 70 km/h at the top mast close the span. The fog board carries the day's verdict by 7:00.
Height: the mid-span floor is 380 metres above the beech wood. If height bothers you, board with the crew and sit the west benches; they face the hill, not the drop.
