Today's crossings

Timetable

Crossings all day, the fog clause at the top, and the last descent at 17:40.

The fog clause: the Vale fogs over most mornings and clears by eleven. First-cabin riders get the fog; after that, the views. Both are the product. Choose knowingly.

Winter runs to the short-hours card: 9:00 to 15:30, fog tickets honoured as clear ones when the fog fails to arrive, which it sometimes insolently does.

Crowd logic

When it's quiet

Weekday afternoons after 14:00: you will likely have a cabin nearly to yourself and the tower keeper's full attention.

Weather

When we stop

Gusts above 70 km/h at the top mast, iced sheaves, or lightning. Closures go on the fog board by 7:00 and the phone line confirms it.

Trains

Arrive by Halt

Whitethorn Halt is a ten-minute walk from Vale-bottom. The 8:05 connects with the fog run; the crew will hold the cabin sixty seconds for late Halt arrivals, once.
